How to Choose

By Cargo Weight

  • Single piece over 15 t → 20GP (small container for heavy cargo; better payload utilization)
  • Light but bulky cargo → 40HQ (large container for voluminous cargo)

By Cargo Volume

  • Under 20 m³ → LCL (groupage) recommended
  • 20–25 m³ → 20GP works
  • 55–65 m³ → 40GP / 40HQ works

By Cargo Characteristics

  • Temperature control required → Reefer (RF)
  • Over-height and non-dismantlable → Open-top (OT)
  • Over-width / over-weight → Flat rack (FR)

FAQ

20-foot or 40-foot?

Simple rule: heavy cargo → 20GP; voluminous cargo → 40HQ. If unsure, send the commodity name plus package count, weight and dimensions to our operations team.

How much fits in one container?

It depends on cargo dimensions and packaging. Typically a 20GP takes about 28 m³ and a 40HQ about 68 m³ (allowing for packaging and void space).

How much difference is there between a high-cube and a standard container?

A 40HQ is 30 cm taller than a 40GP and holds about 9 m³ more. The price difference is small (roughly USD 100–200) — for voluminous cargo, choose the high cube without hesitation.
